Known also as the “Armenian Holocaust,” the “Great Calamity,” and the “Armenian Massacres,” the Armenian Genocide wasthe forced deportation and massacre of about 500,000 to 1.5 million Armenians during the First World War round the Ottoman Empire or modern-day Turkey. The atrocities committed against the Armenian people of the Ottoman Empire during WWI are defined as the Armenian Genocide.
